Narratives in games
The objectives for a game can be compressed to a minimum as in this game "Scamper II":

Get the stuff
Stay away from the thing
When you get all the objects on a level look for the doorway out
Each level is bigger, has different objects and a faster thing chasing you.

It's almost poetic in its simplicity!

MMOG Chess
Ever heard of EverChess? It's (as the name indicates) a hybrid between EverQuest and Chess. You have your usual 16 pieces, but this time they are set up in a circle on an endless chessboard, where you can move every 15 seconds. You score by capturing any other players pieces. Simple game!
Too bad I'm the only one in there....
